Ohio’s Medicaid Managed Care plans work to improve care and partner in statewide quality improvement

Over 3 million Ohio residents received healthcare coverage through Ohio Medicaid with 90% covered by Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). The collective goals of the managed care program is to 1) improve health and wellness outcomes, 2) emphasize a personalized care experience, 3) support providers in better patient care, 4) improve care for children and adults with complex mental health care needs and 5) increase program transparency and accountability. Ohio has seven MCOs offering health, dental, vision, transportation, and prescription drug services:

MCOs play a key role in the Regional QI Hub Quality Improvement Project (QIP). As partners in Ohio’s Medicaid system, MCOs work closely with the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM), the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (GRC), and Ohio’s medical schools to improve care for Medicaid members across the state.
